Shands for Kids Stories of Hope

Kristin was five years old when she experienced her first seizure. While it only lasted for a few minutes at first, her seizures eventually became more frequent and lasted longer in duration. Obviously, this was of immediate concern to her parents as they were frightened about the health of their little girl.

After seeing many physicians in their local community with little success, Kristin’s parents brought her to Shands Children’s Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Kristin had recently suffered a major seizure that lasted for over a half-hour. They were hopeful the UF physicians at Shands Children’s Hospital could offer their beautiful daughter treatment for her condition.

Upon careful examination and analysis, Kristin underwent numerous tests and was diagnosed with a seizure disorder. Thankfully, after a proper diagnosis and medication, Kristin has been seizure free for well over a year.

Today, Kristin loves to swim and rider her bike. She loves outdoor activities and now, she no longer has to live in fear of her seizures unexpectedly interfering with her busy lifestyle.
